Chris Beard, ISANA NZ

Chris Beard is the CEO of ISANA NZ and an Adjunct Teaching Fellow for the Victoria University of Wellington School of Education. He has many years’ experience working with international students and more recently refugee background learners. Chris led the development of ISANA NZ’s online Toolkit and eight eLearning micro modules.

Session description

  • Identifying cross-border learners’ unique needs
  • The international education sector: the key issues, challenges, and innovation
  • Forming a whole-of-provider response to cross-border learner needs

Chris’ session will provide an overview of the unique needs of cross-border leaners as distinct from domestic students. He will offer a snapshot of the key developments in the international education industry in the past twenty years and consider present-day issues for programmes supporting all cross-border students. Chris will introduce examples of tailored practice that incorporate interdisciplinary insights as a springboard for discussion.
